In 1992, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) limited the sale and use of silicone breast implants, despite any hard evidence of health detriment due to the implants.

In 1996, Michael Fumento wrote this monograph attacking the lack of science regarding this limit on the implants. Mr. Fumento reviewed the scientific and medical literature regarding the safety of silicone, and he analyzed the politics around the decision to restrict silicone implant usage.
