The "Gateway" Drug Smear and Other Myth-Representations
The General Accounting Office (GAO), the research arm of the U.S. Congress, found there is no widespread abuse of Ritalin in schools. The GAO's September 2001 report on ADHD concludes — as 48 Hours must have known because it is public record — that abuse of Ritalin is neither widespread nor considered a concern by the vast majority of school principals in this country. But the reporter for the segment cited — without qualification, let
alone mention of the GAO findings — the belief among unnamed "authorities"
that Ritalin is a "middle school cocaine." |
